MFA Thesis:
Cornea Transplant Education
in a Clinical Setting

Keratoplasty can be a daunting procedure for any patient, so education materials should be both approachable and accessible.  These illustrations were created to better convey the steps of common corneal transplant procedures for a low-vision population. The project started from a standard surgical illustration and developed into basic iconography.

Supplementing these flyers was an interactive 3D model with detachable layers of the cornea. This was to incorporate other senses during the consultation process.

2D patient cards

These cards were printed with one copy laminated in the office and others readily available for patients to take home, better understanding their procedure.

3D model

Starting in Autodesk Maya and 3D printed this resin model is used within a consultation to demonstrate the specific layers of cornea being removed.
